5. Third-Party Data Collection and Interest-Based Advertising

In order for third parties to play or display advertisements on our Service, on other websites, apps, or services you may use, and on other devices you may use, we engage in interest-based advertising and permit third-party online advertising networks, social media companies, and other third-party services to gather information about your usage of our website over time. In order to improve or personalize your experience, better understand the demographics of our users and how they interact with our Service, assess the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns, track reporting, referrals, and attribution, and engage in similar activities, we may also use third-party services to collect information about your browser or device or your online activity on our Service.

User Experience Information

We utilize technologies provided by third parties to track user experience data on certain of our services. These programs automatically record information on user behavior, such as mouse movements and clicks, page scrolling, and any text entered into website forms. Passwords, financial information, or other delicate personal information are not included in the data gathered. This data is used by us for website analytics, optimization, and usability enhancement. We don't allow other parties to access this information or use it for their own ends.

For more information on the kinds of data we and our third-party partners gather for interest-based advertising and your options, keep reading.

Interest-Based Advertising

We engage in interest-based advertising and work with other ad networks to provide you specific ads based on your browsing habits. The information used for interest-based advertising is typically, but not always, gathered through cookies or other tracking technologies that identify the device you are using and gather data, such as click stream data, browser type, the time and date you visited the site, and other details. To make it easier for our third-party advertising partners to recognize you across devices, we could share a common account identifier (such as an email address or user ID). This data is used by us and our third-party partners to deliver advertising-related services including reporting, attribution, analytics, and market research, as well as to make the online advertisements you see more relevant to your interests.

Cross-Device Linking

Your different devices may be connected by us or our third-party partners so that the content you view on one device might result in pertinent advertising on another. When you are logged in to our Service, we gather data on each device you use to do this. If two or more devices are connected to a single user or household, we may additionally collaborate with third-party partners that utilize tracking technology or statistical modeling techniques to make this determination. To make it easier for third-party advertising partners to identify you across devices, we could share a common account identifier (such as an email address or user ID). For the purpose of recognizing your device across various channels and platforms, such as PCs, mobile devices, and smart TVs, our partners may combine this information with data they independently collect or information they obtain from other partners, both online and offline.  This cross-device connection allows us and our partners to run analytics, analyze the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns, and show you interest-based advertising and other tailored content across your devices and advertising channels.

cross-device connectivity. Please keep in mind that using the web tools provided by the NAI and DAA will only prevent a user from seeing interest-based adverts on that particular browser or device. On their other devices, the user can still see interest-based advertisements. On each browser or device you use, you must opt out.

Mobile marketing. By choosing "limit ad tracking" (for iOS) or "opt-out of interest based ads" (for Android), you may also be able to restrict interest-based advertising through your mobile device's settings. The Facebook "Like" button, Google Plus, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Instagram, and other social network widgets might be included in our service. These businesses' interest-based advertising programs enable us to target users who have expressed interest in our Service while they are on the social media platform or to groups of users who have characteristics in common, such as demographics and probable commercial interests. Additionally, we might make use of some sophisticated features offered by Google Analytics, such as Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting, DoubleClick Campaign Manager Integration, Google Display Network Impression Reporting, and Remarketing with Google Analytics. With the aid of these functions, we are able to combine first-party cookies (like the Google Analytics cookie) with third-party cookies (like the DoubleClick advertising cookie) or other third-party cookies in order to inform, enhance, and show advertisements based on previous visits you have made to the Service. By accessing the Google Ads Preferences Manager, presently accessible at https://google.com/ads/preferences, or by visiting NAI's online resources at http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices, you can manage your advertising preferences or opt-out of specific Google advertising products.

You are not entitled to unfair treatment if you exercise these rights.

Please be aware, however, that we might no longer be able to offer you our products and services or interact with you in the same way if the exercise of these rights restricts our ability to handle personal information (such as in the event of a request for deletion).

“Shine the Light”

California residents that have an established business relationship with us have rights to know how their information is disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing purposes under California’s “Shine the Light” law (Civ. Code § 1798.83).

5. TO EXERCISE YOUR CALIFORNIA CONSUMER RIGHTS

Please use one of the methods listed below to make a request in order to exercise your California consumer rights.

  • Through our privacy portal, submit a California Consumer Rights Request form.
  • Call our Customer Service privacy team at 866-438-3771 at any time on Monday through Friday between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm CT.

Before processing some request types, we will need to confirm your identity. As a result, we might need to ask you for more personal information or ask you to enter into your account, if you have one. Personal data supplied in connection with a Consumer Rights Request will only be used by us to examine and fulfill the request.

If we are unable to confirm your identification or find your information in our systems, we may in some cases refuse a request to exercise the rights outlined above. In the event that we are unable to accede to all or a portion of your request, we will provide an explanation.

Additionally, you may alter the "Targeting Cookies" toggle and click the "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" link in the website's footer to opt out of the selling of your personal information for the purpose of online advertising. Please be aware that your browser or mobile device must support this opt-out. The opt-out procedure must be completed on each browser or device you use.

Authorized Agents

You may, under certain conditions, designate an authorized agent to submit requests on your behalf to exercise your California privacy rights. The authorized agent must either present a letter that is signed by you verifying that the agent has your consent to make a request on your behalf or must present enough proof to demonstrate that the agency has been duly granted power of attorney.

It may take longer to complete requests filed by authorized agents because we may need to validate your identification and authorization to do so directly with you. This is done for security reasons. If we are unable to confirm the authorized agent's right to act on your behalf, we have the right to refuse a request. Please be aware that we will only contact the data subject on whose behalf the request was made in the future for privacy and security reasons.

California’s “Shine the Light” Law
